Miss Scarlet was having a dinner party to celebrate getting the role in the up coming play. She decided to invite, Actress Miss Blue and her friend of the family former detective Green. It was a couple minutes before the party and Miss Scarlet and maid Anne were putting the finishing touches on the table when they heard aloud BANG!. That sounded like it came from the study near the front hallway near the front door. Frightened Miss Scarlet went to investigate but as she was crossing the front door someone knocked. Stopping she walked over to the door and cautiously opened it slightly to find Miss Blue standing outside the door.
“ Please come in, and I’ll show you to the Parlor” said Miss Scarlet cheerfully opening the door all the way to let her in.
“ Thank-you, but I would like a drink and a snack be..” another knock came cutting her off.
Miss Scarlet opened the door and welcomed detective Green in. Soon she led them all to the parlor and decided to check out the noise in the study. As she walked in she saw that the light on the desk had been turned on and her diary was missing. Worried she called maid Anne and told her to show her guests to dinner. She decided to tell detective Green.
At dinner Miss Scarlet stood up and made a toast. “ I want to thank you for coming to my small dinner party as a celebration for my part in the up-coming play.” She sat down then said “ Detective Green I was wondering if you could help me with…” Cutting her off Miss Blue excused her self saying she’ll be right back. Miss Scarlet then continued to say “ With something that has just occurred before you and miss Blue arrived?”
“ Now, Miss scarlet I am retired from being a detective but since you are a close friend of mine, I guess I could help you considering that is what you want me to do, right? Investigate something.” replied Detective Green.
“ Well, yes it is because just before you and Miss Blue arrived…” Miss Scarlet told him everything that had happened and right as she finished Miss Blue returned. They all finished their meal and before they went to the parlor stopped at the study to take a look at the “Crime Scene” , But When they got there Miss Scarlet was shocked and frightened to find that the lamp and the diary that was missing had been put back! Embarrassed and quite puzzled she took them to the parlor.
“ I’m positive of what I saw, even maid Anne heard the bang.” Miss Scarlet blurted out when they had all sat down.
“ Your quite sure of what you saw ?” questioned Detective Green
“ Yes, why would I lie ?’ Miss Scarlet
“ She’s telling the truth sir, I heard the noise.” maid Anne said out of no where.
“ Are you sure you weren’t just making imagining it ? Said miss Blue smugly
“ Well it’s not missing now, so lets make the best of tonight and have the desert you told me about earlier.” said detective Green
Several times Miss Blue got up and left the room but the longest time was right before it was time to leave. When she returned she explained to them that her stomach had been upset for awhile She went to another friends party two days ago and was extremely sorry. Just as they were walking to the door maid Anne ran out of the parlor with a pale face as if she’d seen a ghost!
“ What’s wrong ?” questioned detective Green
“ The diary, it’s gone!” cried maid Anne
“ mmm...just as I thought” murmured detective Green under his breath. “ Would you all please return to the study. I think I know the answer to this Mystery. he said.
They all went back to the study and sat down except for detective Green.
“ I think I know the answer to this mystery but first let me explain what happened , and please don’t interrupt while I explain. Now where do I begin..mmm, I remember here’s what happened, while Miss Scarlet and maid Anne were in the dining room our thief went in through the study window and stole the diary. But what the thief forgot was that she had left the light on so she went back through the window but banged her head while going through so she left the light on and made a quick escape back out. Not a second later Miss Blue Knocked on the door…
“ Your not implying that I stole it!” exclaimed Miss Blue
“Quiet! And don’t interrupt again. Now as I was saying, Miss Blue Knocked on the door and a little later I came and we all ate dinner and so on but while we ate dinner Miss Blue got up and left to go to the bathroom. We all guessed but, no you didn’t go to the bathroom did you Miss Blue!” said detective Green.
“ I..I” stuttered Miss Blue but stayed quiet.
“ Just as I thought but what gave it away was when you told us about the party you went to two days ago. You see I was at that party. If I remember you were not there because I saw the guest list. Now, you are the thief because right before it was time to leave you went to the parlor and stole the diary and made it look as it did when Miss Scarlet saw it didn’t you.” questioned detective Green.
“ Yes, I did steal it and I would’ve gotten away with it if you it wasn’t for you!” exclaimed Miss Blue angrily
“ Why? You’re my best friend, my partner.” questioned Miss Scarlet sadly
“ Because, you were going to publish that diary and it would ruin me and my career. I just couldn’t let that happen.” yelled Mss Blue angrily.
“ Oh, Miss Blue You’re my best friend and I was going to tell you tonight before you left that I decided not to publish it.” replied Miss Scarlet gently.
Miss Blue said she was sorry and should’ve known better and asked for forgiveness. Miss Scarlet forgave her and Miss Blue returned the diary then left. Detective Green thanked Miss Scarlet for the delicious dinner and Miss scarlet thanked him too and he left.
